The Committee of Pro-Chancellors of State-owned Universities in Nigeria is a platform for Pro-Chancellors of State-owned Universities to articulate and peer-review optimal governance practices to ensure effective and uninterrupted delivery of high quality tertiary education and other services by State-owned institutions.

Pro-Chancellors, as leaders of the Governing Councils and representatives of Visitors, play significant roles in the proper governance of the institutions. The consciousness of the pivotal role of University education in the human and material development of the Nigerian nation and the need for joint action in achieving quality education and high standards led to the formation of COPSUN on 25th September 2005, in Abuja.

There are forty-eight (48) State Universities in Nigeria.
